BJP leader Narendra Modi said that 2014 is the year of "Lotus and Modi" on Saturday. Lotus referred to by Modi is the BJP's symbol. BJP's prime ministerial candidate made this statement at an election rally in Baghpat town in Uttar Pradesh.

In his address, Modi attacked the Congress saying that the party had not done enough for neither the armymen nor the farmers.

Modi likened Congress rule to British rule, when people fought for 'swaraj' (self-rule).

The Gujarat chief minister said now people have to fight (vote) for 'suraj', meaning good governance, by voting out the Congress from power. Modi called for a Congress-free India during the Baghpat rally.
